Today, I'm linking up with The Gypsy Mama for five minute Friday. The rules are simple: write for 5 minutes flat with no editing, tweaking or self critiquing.
This week's topic: beauty...and the only definition that matters is:
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14.
Go.
Growing up, I never felt beautiful. I was always the smart one. The ambitious one. The one who could sing.
But never the pretty one.
It's weird, because I don't think anyone ever told me I was ugly. But sometimes silence is way louder than words. And it's hard when you don't look like most of your classmates--I, at times, loathed my small eyes and my round flat face. My big wide feet. I also didn't look like a typical Asian--I was tall, broad-shouldered. My uncles and aunts would say, "Wow, you're built like a football player."
And so I took pride in my accomplishments. Unfortunately, that pride often got in the way of true beauty--who I am inside. The only beauty that matters.
Who am I kidding...my pride always gets in the way of me being beautiful from the inside out.
Yet, I realize that my true beauty really comes from the One that came to take away the ugly. Only He can transform me from the inside out. Beauty that takes my self-loathing and says, "Here, I make all things new and beautiful."
STOP.
Whew. That was way deep for a Friday morning. Wanna link up? Join The Gyspy Mama's party!!!
